Because He lives

My hunch is that when people are given something solid into which they can sink their teeth, they will discover how truly hungry they have been.

—Professor J. Lunde, Following Jesus, The Servant King

[B]ut after the resurrection the disciples would be able to see clearly that the cross was not a tragedy or mistake but part of the divine mystery. The resurrection would not create a new understanding of the person and work of Jesus, the Christ. Rather, it would confirm what he had taught all along: Jesus of Nazareth was indeed the Christ, the Son of God, the Savior of the world.

Peter earlier had sought to impose his own messianic conceptions on Jesus. The result was a Satanic understanding of the messianic role. At the transfiguration the Voice told Peter and the others that they must “listen to Jesus.” He alone was the one who could and must interpret the messianic role that God intended. And this role led to Jerusalem and a cross.

—Robert H. Stein, Jesus the Messiah: A Survey of the Life of Christ

“Gifts of radiant warmth, sunflowers are the happiest of flowers, and their meanings include loyalty and longevity. They are unique in their ability to provide energy in the form of nourishment and vibrance, an attribute which mirrors the sun and the energy provided by its heat and light.
No flower can lift spirits quite like sunflowers can. Bright and cheery, bold yet comfortable, the sunflower is a warm and caring gift. With brilliant yellow petals that surround the flower’s center, sunflowers have an unmistakable sun-like appearance that has made them a passionate flower choice for many. Sunflowers come in a number of varieties, ranging from small to large and from daylight yellows to sunset reds.
For a flower which reflects so many of the sun’s positive characteristics, it is little surprise that people enjoy basking in the sunflower’s warming glow. With the sense of brightness and warmth that sunflowers naturally impart, they have become an ideal choice for sending sentiments of cheerfulness and sunny get well thoughts.” Samantha Green
!!! This is brilliant. Sunflowers, I can learn a thing or two from you…

*Inhale*

If you cannot handle it, God will not give it to you. His intention is not to see you fail. He stretches our capacity so that we can receive more of Him. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. He knows what He is doing.

*Exhale*

again I will say, Rejoice

17 Though the fig tree does not bud
and there are no grapes on the vines,
though the olive crop fails
and the fields produce no food,
though there are no sheep in the pen
and no cattle in the stalls,
18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord,
I will be joyful in God my Savior.

19 The Sovereign Lord is my strength;
he makes my feet like the feet of a deer,
he enables me to tread on the heights.

Miya is my name

A friend of mine was looking up the origins and meanings of different names a few days ago - names of her closer brothers and sisters, to be specific. She searched “Miya” and found that it means “temple; increasingly beautiful” in Japanese. Having remembered this, I looked it up myself. On the the google search under the link for my name was the name “Mia.” Turns out that “Mia” means “uncertain; maybe bitter.”

After all those years of teachers and strangers mispronouncing my name, I’ve never felt so honored to be called a “Miya” =)
